Top 10 Mics under $1000
In this post I'd like to document some of the top 10 microphones under $1000 in 2024. If you are in the market to purchase truly brilliant sounding mics then you came to the right place.
Whether you intend to record vocals for your track or stream your podcast these microphones will be your starting off point
This will not be a ranking but rather a snapshot of the top 10.
1. Slate Digital VMS ML-1
This large diaphragm condenser mic offers ultra linear and neutral response.
On top of that you have access to other expensive microphones via the Slate Digital VMS plugin.
Simply plug it into your interface, load up your DAW and record with some of the best mics Slate has to offer.
2. Rode NT1-A
The mic I'm currently using is a Rode NT1-A. It offers great value at a fraction of the price.
Not only do you get the clean response microphone you get a bonus pop filter and shock mount.
3. Warm Audio WA-47
A more expensive brother of the VMS ML-1 but it comes with a power supply but if you don't have space for another outlet then the other mics might be a better option.
Don't count it out though because it's been around for a while and you can hear it in many iconic recordings.
Another great option is this large diaphragm condenser microphone.
For under 500 you can have amazingly detailed sound and lower potential for distortion.

4. Shure SM81 Small-diaphragm Condenser Microphone
Despite it's shape there is a lot to offer here. It has a small diaphragm so it's great for acoustic instruments such as guitar or violin.
It has 3 switches that you can choose from to select EQ roll offs.
5. Audio-Technica AT4050
You can use this mic for pretty much any recording envoriment. It's low noise and comes with a shock mount.
The shock mount seems sturdy and the price is fair. Definitely give this a consideration.
6. Neumann TLM 102
Neumann is one of the top brands of microphones. They are usually very good but also very expensive
This mic gives you the quality but for a great price and value.
7. sE Electronics X1 A
Despite it's funny shape this is a highly rated microphone.
It has a nice 100hz switch so you can cut the rumble and noise out of your recording.
8. Rode NT-USB
Are you a gamer or podcaster? I would recommend this or the Shure SM8 as your choice.
It hooks into your USB port so no messing around with preamps and interfaces.
Plus it comes with a tripod, stand mount and pop filter.
9. Universal Audio Sphere LX
This is brand new on the market and surely expensive but the value is ridiculous.
Such as the Slate Digital VMS ML-1 it comes with modelling software that mimics other top dollar microphones.
10. Shure SM7B Cardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone
This microphone is a BEAST and can be applied in any situation whether you're recording vocals on a song or podcasting.
Some of the biggest artists have used this mic. With a price such as this it's hard to turn down.
