In this post, we are gonna go in depth on how to actually start putting multis into your bars right now!

Not tomorrow, not next week….RIGHT NOW!

This is a very easy process and you as a rapper (a natural creative type) this will be basic stuff.

So let’s get into this

Multi Example #1: Nas - It Aint Hard To Tell

The bar we are focusing on right now is the one below at about 0:35

Deep like The Shinin’, sparkle like a diamond
Sneak a uzi on the island in my army jacket lining

So if you break this down you see it is 1 Bar – with 4 different rhyming words (or multis)

Deep like The Shinin’, sparkle like a diamond
Sneak a uzi on the island in my army jacket lining

Here we have highlighted all four – Shinin, diamond, island, and lining.

So notice, instead of just having 2 rhyming words at the end of each line, he added 2 more rhyming words.

If we look even closer we can see that these multis strengthen his usage of metaphors.

It also helps with the flow of his rhyme scheme – if the multis were not placed there each line would be dragged out and lost it’s effectiveness.

This is one of the most powerful lessons in why multis should always be used in your raps.

Multi Example #2: Myself

This rap is about a decade old and I thought it was appropriate to include because it was also done over the It Ain’t Hard to Tell instrumental.

Here’s what I rapped

I’m as Cold As Ice/
Fuck That I’m Much Colder/
Roll Harder Than A Boulder/
Stay Equipped Cause We Soldiers/
Speak Deep, When My Acapella Hits The Streets/
Feel Like The Demon Beast, When I Drop My Technique/

We are going to focus on this one bar

Speak Deep, When My Acapella Hits The Streets/
Feel Like The Demon Beast, When I Drop My Technique/

So again, we have 4 rhyming words in this bar (5 if you include speak) – speak, deep, streets, beast, technique.

Now my metaphors may not be on Nas level but notice how the 2-3 rhyming words preceding my metaphor made it more effective?

So now the question becomes how do you think of multis?

How To Create Multis In Your Rap

writeraps

I will show you the easiest way to start including more multis in your rap right away.

The process is simple and takes only a creative mind.

So let’s imagine a scenario – your listening to a dope beat, you have a certain idea of where you want to go with your rap – down to flow.

If we were to use the example above of my rap I would probably have an idea that I want to start the next bar with

Speak Deep….

The simplest way to create multis to followup that would to write out all the rhyming words you can think of

For Example:

  • Speak Deep
  • Streets
  • Beast
  • Technique
  • Beef
  • Heat

With that list of rhyming words you can compose bars based off them!

Figuring out which ones to use and not use at your own free will and based on the idea you have

I used to be in school with the margins filled with rhyming words I would think up during class – composing different bars and then making an entire verse.

Some people use rhyming dictionaries – I never bought into that idea but if that’s the direction you want to go – by any means do what you do.

I would just rather have the challenge of figuring out the puzzle myself.
