Hooks are one of the most important parts of your track. The listener pays attention to 3 things first in this order

  • Instrumental
  • Hook
  • Verse

They got to like the beat first if it’s riding they will keep listening to it.

While they bob they head to the beat it’s putting them into a trance and opening their mind to what you got to say.

That’s why the hook is so important because the hook has to reel them in to keep listening – especially through the verses.

Hook = Summary Of Your Song

The hook has got to be a summary of the track your making. I always suggest to artists when we are working in the studio that they start with the hook first, because if they start with the hook first they can make their verses follow suite and maybe include it into their lyrics.

I’ve always found this makes the songwriting process a lot easier.

Basically you need to think of 3 things when writing a hook:

  • What is this song about?
  • How can I make this catchy?
  • Does it automatically get stuck on repeat in your head?

These 3 elements as well as an added bonus of singing can take your track to the next level.

Remember your hook has to be catchy and it has to effectively summarize your track.
